Mission and Philosophy
I’d like the work you do with me in counseling or yoga to enhance your life outside the studio or office. When we dedicate our effort to counseling or spiritual practice we want to see this effort work in our lives to elicit changes that improve our quality of life.
Real problems need real solutions.
My goal is to address your life struggles with respect and patience so that you can bring increased peace and prosperity into your life. The work you do with me should heal on two levels - the deep level where we are conscious of our relationship with ourselves but also on the interpersonal level, so that your experience in your day to day life can be more satisfying and joyful.
Life vs. Diagnosis
We live in a culture that is inundated with information about mental health diagnoses. Talk shows, news reports, popular psychology and self-help books involving the descriptions and warnings about posttraumatic stress, depression, anxiety, and much more. While the information that these tools provide is helpful, they’re not your life. When someone comes in and reports that they “have” some disorder, I’m always more interested in what is going on in their lives. We can name it later if necessary. But isn’t the real reason we go to counseling, to the physician, or practice a spiritual or meditative discipline to have some impact on our lives? So, asking the question how is this diagnosis effecting or lives in real, concrete ways may be more likely to elicit real changes than just labeling our struggles.
"My committment is not to consistency....it is to the truth"
